IF THE UK WERE A VILLAGE OF 100 PEOPLE

As of November 26, 2009, the UK population was 61,113,205. Numbers this big are hard to understand, but if the UK were shrunk to the size of a village of 100 people, it would be easier to understand. To give information about the UK, I created this set of post cards in an interesting way.

Set of post cards is designed to communicate the population statistics in the UK under various classifications.

WATERSAVER BI

This version can be applied to print.

This version is suitable for the screen by showing the decreasing water level as a moving image.

WATERSAVER

People are rarely aware of how much water they use, which leads people to use more than they need. To change people’s water use habits, and to save water, I created the water saving shower and tap which is called ‘WATERSAVER’.

The WAYERSAVER shower and tap encourage people to save unnecessary water use by visually displaying the decreasing water level as it is being used.

LATER LIFE WELLBEING

Older people in the population are expected to more than double by 2030. However, older people suffer higher instances of muscle and joint pain. To make older people's lives healthier and longer, I created a new medical information system.

This tablet case is combined with a USB. The tablet case can be continually used by refilling tablets, which can reduce waste from existing tablet packages. Both sides of the case are transparent, which helps users to easily recognize how many tablets they have taken. In addition, users can enjoy technological services through a USB.

This space is called 'INFORMATION CAPSULE'. INFORMATION CAPSULE helps old people to manage their pains by offering many services such as NHS advice, dispensing tablets and community links.

Screen services are divided into three sections: NHS Nurse, Medicine and community. These can encourage people to wisely take tablets according to NHS advice, and share information with other users.

A 100 DAY MARATHON TRAINING PROGRAM

This is a book to recommend the proven 100 day program for success in any marathon. The program is based on Joe Henderson’s book, Marathon Training.

This book is made up of 100 pages (1page for each day). The colours and thickness of type are managed according to the distance being run. White and Helvetica Ultra Light are applied for No Running. Yellow to purple, and Helvetica Light to Heavy are applied for runs of 3 miles to 20 miles. In addition, specific directions are given on the front of each page, and tips are given on the back of each page.

Each page is a different length according to how long you should run on the day. I transfered 1 mile to 1 cm, and applied it to the book. You can tear off each page, and put it in the calender on the wall every day, which can show the whole training program during the 100 days.

SLEUTH

These photographs illustrate the process of finding out evidence regarding crime. The evidence does not appeare obvious in the photographs, but I set up circumstances mysteriously with some small elements, the scribbles on a door and a rope on a chair.

THE BODY SHOP SUPPORTS COMMUNITY TRADE

I created two posters for The Body Shop to reinstate its position as the pioneer of ethical beauty. One of the ethical efforts is that The Body Shop supports Community Trade for its suppliers accross the world. Community Trade is a commitment to trading fairly and responsibly with suppliers.

SLEEPING BENCHES AT THE AIRPORT

Many travellers have to sleep in the airport due to an airline problem or weather delay. For travellers who face some problems such as delayed flights, I created sleeping benches.

This bench has 2 functions in the same space. Normally, the bench is used for seating. However, a user can make an environment suitable for sleeping by pulling down a cover over the bench.
